The Euro 2022 final between England and Germany was watched by an average of 11 million more people on television, a record for women’s football in the UK.

It peaked at more than 17 million in the final minutes of the Lionesses’ 2-1 win at Wembley, according to overnight figures released through scoring firm Barb.

It is also a record for a women’s party.

The previous peak came with England’s defeat in the 2019 World Cup semi-final to the United States, which had a maximum audience of nearly 12 million people.

The average of 11. 0 million relates to BBC One’s full policy of Sunday’s final, which lasted several hours in the afternoon and evening.

It’s slightly the average nightly audience of 11. 2 million from the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert, which aired via BBC One in early June, and remains so far the largest TV audience of the year.

Hearings for Sunday’s game culminated at 7:32 p. m. – the moment the final whistle blew – when they reached 17. 6 million, Barb said.

The average TV audience for the adjustment itself, from start to bottom, is 13. 6 million, according to the BBC.

BBC chief executive Tim Davie said: “We are incredibly proud to have championed women’s football and are extremely happy to have been able to bring such a special sporting moment to the public.

“It was the best women’s football match seen on British television of all time and rightly so.

“Everyone at the BBC is delighted with the victory and to be able to share it with the public. “

Separate figures from the BBC show that the game’s politics have been broadcast 5. 9 million times on iPlayer and BBC Sport.
