The nation’s first “Test to Treat” cellular program was introduced Thursday to provide instant access to prescriptions for loose antiviral drugs to eligible New Yorkers who test positive for COVID-19 at the sites.
The joint announcement of the launch made Thursday through New York City Mayor Eric Adams, NYC Test
Local pharmacies partner with the first Test to Treat sets to provide prompt distribution of prescription drugs.
As the program launches, the program will expand to more than 30 sets in July and will also evolve to be able to distribute antiviral drugs in sets in the summer.
“New York City may have been at the epicenter of the pandemic at first, but we are now leading the way in prevention and mitigation,” said Mayor Eric Adams.
“By putting life-saving drugs in the hands of New Yorkers’ minutes after they test positive, we are once again leading the country to provide temporarily available care to those who want it. This Mobile Test to Treat program will save lives and prepare us for the long-term waves of this pandemic, ensuring the protection and fitness of more New Yorkers.
“Today, we give you another, faster way to get treatment, where you can come out with an oral medication within minutes of a positive test,” said Dr. Ted Long, CEO of NYC Test.
“By operating with trusted local pharmacies and soon equipping our existing Paxlovid units, this new style of cell phone testing allows us to treat all New Yorkers and protect our city so we can continue together. “
“We have learned from the pandemic how vital it is to provide care to people, equitably, prioritizing vulnerable teams and neighborhoods that have been hardest hit by COVID-19,” said Dr. Ashwin Vasan, DOHMH Commissioner.
“In addition to home delivery of medicines, we want to be ready to deliver life-saving medicines to those who don’t feel comfortable or confident. The new Test to Treat cellular style continues the city’s track record of innovation in our reaction to the pandemic.
Stan Vashovsky, CEO of DocGo, added that prescribing Paxlovid in a cellular setting “helps decrease the threat of hospital admission and promotes equity in health care by bringing this life-saving remedy to underserved populations. “
The Test to Treat cellular program begins with 3 sets of cellular checks, combined with local pharmacies, and will expand to more than 30 sets in July.
In the initial phase, New Yorkers who test positive for COVID-19 will get a prescription from a doctor at the cell site and will be able to pick up medications at the pharmacy located in the same location or through the city’s home delivery program. Units will be related and deployed in the following locations:
As the program grows, New Yorkers who test positive in a cell monitoring unit will have the opportunity to meet with an on-site physician and, if eligible, obtain a loose course of Paxlovid antiviral medication.
Program builds on NYC Test’s mobile screening and vaccination efforts
