(Corrects YBS and not PKK) At least two other people were killed and seven wounded in Turkish airstrikes against the Sinjar Resistance Units (YBS), a defense force affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), in Northern Iraq’s Sinjar province, security resources said wednesday.
They said an attack targeted an intelligence headquarters and hit a civilian area, causing damage to nearby shops.
Videos on social media showed plumes of thick smoke and fires as other people fled into the street, though Reuters may simply not determine the videos.
There has been a long Turkish crusade in Iraq and Syria against PKK militants and the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, both of which are terrorist teams through Ankara.
Turkey conducts airstrikes in northern Iraq and has sent commandos to assist in its offensives.
In April, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Iraqi chargé d’affaires after Baghdad accused Ankara of violating its sovereignty and withdrew all its forces from Iraqi territory.
