China has donated to Zimbabwe the recently completed construction of the Parliament at Mt Hampden in Harare to the friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
However, the government described the $100 million allocation as one of Zimbabwe’s many successes.
Speaking to a journalist on a familiarization scale with the new Parliament building, Shanghai Construction Group Director Libo Cai said, “Zimbabwe’s new Parliament building is one of the most important assignments of the China-Africa cooperation exercise, which aims to strengthen solidarity among Zimbabwe. “and China, while also getting better parliamentary facilities to make certain centers more important for Zimbabweans in general. The task strongly supports democracy in Zimbabwe, while strengthening the country’s image.
He said the new Parliament building, whose final touch has been blocked by the COVID-19 pandemic, will be a historic site in the southern African region.
The building, funded by the Chinese government through ChinaAid, includes the National Assembly that can hold 350 deputies, while the Senate has one hundred seats.
Seats are also available in other sizes for compatibility between thin MP and heavy construction MP. Work on the assignment began in November 2018 and construction is now complete.
