Fifth user found dead after German derailment

BERLIN (Reuters) – Rescuers discovered a structure under the rubble of an exercise that derailed in southern Germany on Friday, bringing the total death toll to five, police said on Saturday.

Another 44 people were injured in the derailment, local police tweeted, some with serious injuries.

After several failed attempts, cranes managed to lift at least one car from the derailed train on Saturday. Regional and national politicians saw it and expressed their shock.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the derailment in the picturesque mountainous region north of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria.
