“The translator is the traitor,” they say in Italian. The distrust and paranoia in Europe towards translations was such that scholars were executed for translating the sacred word. Five centuries later, an Indian woman won a primary literary prize in the UK and shared it with her American translator, making it a propitious opportunity to talk about the prestige of translation in world literature.
“Just as other people are driven to write, other people are driven to translate by a preference for percentage of any literary value,” says V Ramaswamy, who began translating in 2005.
Literary translations are portals that open new looks, sounds, flavors and global for the reader to explore and the Other. But can a foreign award breathe new life into a global publisher in pursuit of advertising success?
Geetanjali Shree’s International Booker Prize for Ret Samadhi has focused on literature and translations, but for editors, they can’t even provide the breathing area needed to stay afloat. For most publishers, whether independent or large, translation paintings will have to be subsidized.
A bittersweet delight in the world of literary translations: In the global English-speaking market, only the novel and the wonderful non-fiction travel. Our poetry languishes. Let’s go back to poetry.

China on Sunday introduced three astronauts to a six-month project to complete the structure of the country’s station that is recently in orbit around Earth.
The Shenzhou-14 spacecraft with astronauts Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe was lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.
Minutes later, the floor official said the project was a “great success” and said the spacecraft had reached its designated orbit.
The trio will cooperate with the floor team to complete the meeting and design of the Tiangong Space Station, from a single-module design to a national area laboratory with 3 modules: the main module, Tianhe, and two laboratory modules: Wentian and Mengtian.
The launch was broadcast live nationwide.
The mission will build the space station into a national space laboratory, Lin Xiqiang, the deputy director of the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced on Saturday.
The Shenzhou-14 crew will work with the ground team to complete the rendezvous, docking and transposition of the two lab modules with the core module, Lin said at a pre-launch press conference.
They will enter the two lab modules for the first time and help make the environment suitable for their stay, he said, adding that they will unlock and install a dozen of scientific experiment cabinets in the two modules.
This is the 2nd set of six astronauts China has sent to build its space station. Earlier, a three-member Chinese astronaut crew which included a woman returned to the earth in April after spending a record six months, building vital parts of the space station which is expected to be ready by this year.
They had completed the verification of key technologies of its space station, according to the CMSA. Once ready, China will be the only country to own a space station. The International Space Station (ISS) of Russia is a collaborative project of several countries.
China Space Station (CSS) is also expected to be a competitor to the ISS built by Russia. Observers say CSS may become the sole space station to remain in orbit once the ISS retires in the coming years.
In February, China unveiled an ambitious plan for its booming industry, which included more than 50 launches and six manned flights to the entire structure of its station.
The China Aeronautical Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) said China will conduct more than 50 launches in 2022, sending more than 140 spacecraft to Array.
Chen, who will be the commander of the new mission, participated in the Shenzhou-11 manned area flight mission. the press conference at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
The trio will be back in orbit for six months, Lin said. During their stay in orbit, the Shenzhou-14 team will practice the two laboratory modules, the Tianzhou-5 shipping spacecraft and the dock of the combined Shenzhou-15 spacecraft with Commander Tianhe. module.
They will rotate with the Shenzhou-15 team in orbit and return to the Dongfeng landing site in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in December, it said. Lin. La China began the structure of its 3-module area station in April 2021 with the launch of Tianhe, the first and largest of the 3-module station.
