NEW BEDFORD – The local pantry that picks up your orders from the Greater Boston Food Bank on King Street here in the city will have to pick up your orders in Fall River, at least for now.

The so-called “Cross Dock” is now at 231 Commerce Drive in Fall River as of June 7. This is Atlantic Lighting Inc. in the Fall River Industrial Park.

“This is a transient location and we are still actively looking for other options,” pantry teams said in a food bank notification.

The Greater Boston Food Bank serves several pantries in New Bedford, St. Lawrence Church, Catholic Social Services, PACE, Salvation Army, St. Anthony’s Church and St. Martin’s Pantry.

“We will also continue our search for a permanent distribution of choice on the south coast as we operate at this site,” the food bank notification read.

Pantry reported several months ago that the King Street site in New Bedford would no longer be available for Deliveries from the Greater Boston Food Bank.

King Street site no longer available: Greater Boston Food Bank for new location for local pantry deliveries

Ed McPherson of Proactive Philanthropy, owner of the giant King Street warehouse, said the relationship with GB Food Bank will end in May expired. It ended to finish in April, but granted an extension to the Greater Boston Food Bank.

In its search for a more permanent delivery location, the Greater Boston Food Bank looks for a site that could have the following on its bucket list:

2 or dock doors

Preparation domain (downloading and shipping orders)

Ability for GBFB to work with our electric jacks

GBFB’s ability to operate our dock-cooled diesel trailer

Toilets for GBFB and spousal agencies

Available 1 or 2 per week (Prefer Tuesday and/or Wednesday)

Available from 7am to 12pm

Recommendations or data for a new imaginable site deserve to be communicated with agencyrelations@gbfb. org.
