Bradford beat the other finalists from County Durham, Southampton and the Wrexham County District, who will get a £125,000 grant for the finalists.
The shortlist was compiled from a record organization of 20 other people who had first registered bids to take over the title, awarded once every four years.
Since winning the title, Coventry has invested more than £172 million in music concerts and the UK’s first permanent immersive virtual art gallery, as well as an additional £500 million for the city’s regeneration.
Shanaz Gulzar, Chairman of Bradford 2025, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our ordinary cultural heritage and for our young and ethnically varied population, who have been so concerned about shaping our offering, to become leaders and agents to replace and obtain a new bankruptcy in our history began. The advisory committee, chaired by Sir Phil Redmond, visited the 4 shortlisted sites before giving their final advice in May, which was then approved by Ms Dorries.

The bid team also noted that the district is home to England’s largest theatre corporation for people with disabilities, Mind the Gap, and the Bradford Literature Festival, one of the UK’s most inclusive and largest festivals.
Bradford is home to a thriving network of independent local festivals, 30 libraries, dozens of voluntary and networked arts organizations, and a colorful network of independent artists, producers, writers, poets, dancers, photographers, filmmakers, and arts professionals.
In January, Bradford Council’s museum strategy for the next decade revealed plans for a new multi-million dollar municipal museum that would join the other 4 museums run by the district council.
Sir Phil said: “Selection is never about whether one service offering is better than another, but that a service offering has the potential to have a greater and more feasible impact.
“For 2021, we have asked Coventry to raise the bar set in the past through Derry-Londonderry 2013 and then raised through Hull 2017. Challenged by the pandemic, Coventry actually did and I can’t wait to see how far the cultural bar can go. bred in BD25.

Bradford has been named the City of British Culture of 2025, taking the name Coventry.

Bradford will get £275,000 in initial investment as it plans a year of “cultural and unforgettable events”.
