FLORENCE, Ala. — The U. S. Marshals Service The U. S. Department of Homeland Security said Sunday it will turn over up to $10,000 in data about an inmate who escaped and a “missing and endangered” correctional officer who went missing Friday after the two left a building in northern Alabama.
Casey Cole White, 38, had been jailed for murder at the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Florence, Alabama, about 75 miles west of Huntsville.
Inmate and deputy director of corrections Vicky White, 56, left the Lauderdale County detention center Friday morning to go to a nearby courthouse, the sheriff said Saturday in a Facebook post. Investigators said the two were not related.

While in state for other crimes in 2020, Casey confessed to the stabbing death of Connie Ridgeway in 2015, WHNT-TV reported.
Vicky White has been in service for 16 years. At a news convention Friday, Singleton said she was armed when she left the criminal with the inmate and headed to the courthouse for what she said was an assessment of Casey White’s intellectual aptitude. She was alone with the inmate, which the sheriff said violated department policy.
“Our policy is that any detainee with such fees be escorted by two sworn deputies. And that didn’t happen,” Singleton said.
Singleton also said there is no assessment of the inmate’s intellectual aptitude scheduled in court.
The vehicle the officer and detainee were in as they left the detention center was found in the parking lot of a nearby mall, according to the sheriff’s office.
Vicky White also told her colleagues she had a doctor’s appointment, which she confirmed, but the workplace said the officer never showed up, the sheriff said. Officers tried to touch Vicky White, but her phone was activated several times in voicemail.
Singleton said his branch was “aggressively investigating” the incident and would look at past interactions between the two to “see if anything else was going on. “Singleton told the media that Vicky White returned her retirement documents the day before she disappeared.
The sheriff told AL. com on Sunday that there were no new developments in the investigation. The Associated Press called the sheriff’s workplace, but a phone message said the workplace was closed Sunday.
The Marshals Service said Casey is 6 feet nine inches tall and weighs about 260 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.
