Russo-Ukrainian War: What Happened Today (April 30)

Hundreds of Ukrainian infantrymen and civilians in Mariupol are waiting to be evacuated from where they are entrenched under a metal factory. Conditions are terrible and lack food and supplies. An internal factory soldier told NPR that the scenario was “catastrophic. “At the end of the day, an evacuation convoy comes to the aid of 20 women and children.

Three other bodies that looked like evidence of torture were discovered in a mass grave in Bucha, the leader of Kiev’s regional police said. In recent weeks, photographs of civilians killed have surfaced on the streets of Bucha. Russia has been accused of committing war crimes and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for genocide.

Seven Ukrainian infantrymen and seven civilians have been released in a prisoner exchange with Russia, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said on social media on Saturday. Russian forces have shown the exchange.

Reports that have emerged indicate that rapes in Ukraine at the hands of Russian infantrymen are widespread. Finding justice can be difficult.

The Norwegian government has joined the rest of Europe in isolating Russia. But as a country bordering Russia, it feels the effects more than others, and adds to climate action in the Arctic.
