The narrow final position was what many expected the Jacksonville Jaguars to use in the offseason last year. Whether it was targeting a free agent or selecting a player in the first two days of the draft, it was clear that the team needed to reorganize the position.
However, none of those probabilities materialized. The team didn’t do much to fix the tight finish until the fourth week of the regular season, when he traded cornerback C. J. Hfinisherson to the Carolina Panthers and received Dan Arnold in return.
But he was the only major addition of all of last season, and as 2022 approaches, it seems unlikely that the Jags will make the same mistake in what is becoming one of the most important positions in the modern game.
This is what tight extremes in 2021 and future prospects like.
2021 Season

At the beginning of the year, the painting was that of James O’Shaughnessy. But he was limited to just seven appearances after suffering an injury at the start of the season, completing with 24 receptions for 244 yards. The team also recruited Luke. Farrell from Ohio State in the fifth round and signed Chris Manhertz, but both are more common blockers and have had minimal impact on aerial play.
The real differentiator turned out to be Arnold. He didn’t score a landing either, but he led the tight ends with 324 yards on 28 catches. It’s probably not the elite option the team is looking for, but its versatility allows it to carve out a role on the roster in the future.
Still, the functionality of the tight as a whole left much to be desired in what turned out to be a frustrating season for the offense.

T-shirt requirement: high
This unit may have exceeded its targets in 2021, but that’s not enough. Production wasn’t there, and with O’Shaughnessy and Jacob Hollister under contract due to expire, there may also be much less intensity in the position in the future.
The Jaguars have only 3 tight ends under contract for the 2022 season lately, and two of them are focused on blocking. Arnold impressed, but this equipment can work just to add.
Whether it’s in a loose venture with a player like Dalton Schultz or in the draft with a player like Jalen Wydermyer of Texas A
