MU Health Care’s COVID-19 Testing Clinic on Keene St. has closed its doors, but the fitness formula still gives testing.
Eric Maze, a spokesman for MU Health Care, said the hospital’s incident command team, based on case knowledge and network prevalence, felt the time was right to close the clinic.
“Our incident command team now was the time to scale down and return to more general operations,” Maze said.
The clinic saw an increase in the call for tests in January, as the omicron variant increased statewide.
In January, statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations reached a record high of around 4000. Over the past week, hospitalizations dropped to nearly 1500.
“In January, we saw about a thousand more people per day that we were testing. Now that number has dropped by 65 percent in recent weeks,” Maze said.
In January, the Columbia County Boone Health Department reported between 500 and 800 patients consistent with the day. The Health Department reported 28 tests on Feb. 23.
Some local pharmacies no longer offer checks, such as Walmart and Walgreens. Boone Health, Hy-Vee and Columbia Urgent Care offer checks.

“We are looking to return to more general operations where we manage testing and vaccination in our number one care, immediate care and emergency care clinics,” Maze said.
If the instances return, the hospital can simply reopen the control site.
