MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin is in a position to send a delegation to Minsk to negotiate with representatives of Ukraine, the Kremlin said Friday after a phone call between the Russian president and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Putin told Xi that the Russian military’s operation in Ukraine is mandatory to protect the population from “genocide,” the Kremlin said, a rate the West calls baseless propaganda.
The Kremlin said Xi respects Russia’s moves and is in a position of close and mutual coordination at the United Nations, where both are permanent members of the Veto-wielding Security Council. (Reporting via Polina Devitt; Written through Alexander Marrow; Editing via Mark Trevelyan )
