Four and a half months after its opening, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department ended its mass vaccination clinic on Battlefield Road and moved to the Westside Public Health Center on Feb. 28.
Intending to take care of the newly approved pediatric COVID boosters and vaccines at the time, Ministry of Health spokesman Aaron Schekkora told the new leader that the giant facility was no longer needed.
“The goal of the area was to be a short-term solution, as new populations have become eligible for vaccination, so we’re just not in a position where we want the duration of amenities this area has presented in recent months, which is why we’re being transferred to the Westside Clinic. ” Said.
Schekkora added that the resolution did not imply that the Health Department would stop vaccinating the rest of Greene County, which has remained vaccinated by just over 50 percent in the past month.
“When we moved to a larger area to build our capacity, we had to withdraw from staff from other clinics, at third-party locations. These awareness opportunities, such as in libraries and with schools, etc. , we must do now that we are moving away from a larger area to a smaller area. We are in a position to revive those efforts.
The Battlefield Clinic Health Department lease, which in the past housed a Gordman branch and a Toys ‘R’ Us, will end at the end of the month, Schekkora said.
The Department of Health began vaccinating the network at the Battlefield Clinic on October 11, 2021. In mid-February, it administered 13,267 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and evaluated 4,871 patients at the site. In addition, another 3,200 people won a $50 card gift for receiving their first dose or moment at the Battlefield Clinic.
When the CDC approved pediatric vaccination last fall, Springfield Public Schools partnered with the Department of Health to run vaccination clinics and increase access to testing for students. A total of 1,984 doses of pediatric vaccines were administered in the clinic and 50 SPS students were evaluated. at the site for 12 days the peak of the Omicron variant.
