Long lines, waiting time on the new COVID-19 check before the holiday weekend

TAMPA, Fla. — Long lines around the new COVID-19 testing site in Progress Village on Thursday, with some waiting to get tested and others looking to verify they had the virus.

Hillsborough County opened the verification site to ease the longer lines it saw at other sites during the week.

“This queue is ridiculous and crazy, I didn’t know it was going to be that long when I was given here,” said Jareli Gonzalez, a mom who lined up to get tested.

Progress Village will be closed on Fridays and Saturdays; however, the Lee Davis Community Resource Center, at 3402 N. 22nd St. in Tampa, and the Plant City Community Resource Center, at 307 N. Michigan Ave. à Plant City, will be open from nine in the morning to five in the afternoon from December 31 to January 2.

CVS and Walgreens are also administering COVID-19 testing by appointment, however, spaces have been temporarily filled and a quick online scan shows no appointments are available until next week.

“I was looking to move to cvs, but they didn’t have anything,” Gonzalez explained.

There are features to buy trials online. A bestseller on Amazon costs $24. 99 for two tests, but it will take about seven days to get it.
