Sheridan Federal Prison Sees COVID-19 Case Increase

SHERIDAN, Oregon (AP) – The number of others who tested positive for coronavirus increased in the last month in a federal criminal in Yamhill County, authorities said.

Authorities showed Tuesday that on December 4, Sheridan’s average security had registered two instances, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported. As of Wednesday, theArray, which houses about 1,450 male prisoners, had 41 active instances between the ers and 10 other instances diagnosed in the staff, according to the Bureau of Prisons.

Colleen Samuel, whose son Robert Benham is serving a seven-year sentence for bank robbery, said situations were deteriorating and that he became involved for his health and safety.

Benham, 55, told his mother that some inmates had been placed in a COVID-19 unit located in a gym where they had to lie in their bunk beds all day.

Farrah Silver, spokesman for the Bureau of Prisons, said the facility had to locate “homes and spaces of choice for social distance, quarantine and isolation,” but that inmates were limited to their bunk beds.

Silver also said that accumulation in some cases may be due to an accumulation in testing.

In Oregon state prisons, more than 2,000 prisoners were tested for the virus, adding about 500 with active infections Wednesday and 21 deaths.
