Cherry blossoms will be planted in Dawson Park and Stonehaven dundee as Thomas Blake Glover’s “living witness. “

“Thomas Glover has done more for relations between Britain and Japan than almost anything else to date.

“It is with great pride that we will celebrate this and 150 years of companionship, thanks to our friends in Japan.
“It’s been a long way to get to this point, but it’s worth it.
“The park will be an impressive exhibition in the spring and a living testament to Glover and foreign cooperation. “
The trees will have to come with taihaku or ‘great white’, which has disappeared in Japan and has been reintroduced from the UK.
Japan’s former ambassador to the UK, Koji Tsuruoka, said: “Thousands of cherry trees planted in parks, schools and public spaces will grow as part of the long-standing friendship that has developed between the two. country and will continue to do so.
“I would like to express my greatest thanks to those who contributed to the Sakura Cherry Tree project. “
