Muhlenberg: Plainfield’s board of directors will consider adding and renewing behavioral health

PLAINFIELD – The refurbishment of Muhlenberg Hospital will appear before the city’s planning council on Thursday with a proposal to build a cognitive and behavioral conditioning building.

MBH Urban Renewal of Bloomfield proposes to renovate the existing three-story construction known as Building 23 and build an addition of a 1,143-square-foot floor to Building 23 for use as a cognitive and behavioral conditioning facility.

According to the plans, the first ground will involve administrative offices, outpatient spaces and eight-bed women’s rooms.

The land at the moment will be for residential rooms for men with 16 beds and the third floor will be a detoxification unit with 20 beds.

MBH Urban Renewal is 100 percent owned by Muhlenberg Management, LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company that is 99% owned by Healthcare Limited Partners. William J. Colgan, Steven Rosefsky and William T. Colgan each own a 32% stake in Healthcare Partners.

The structure is a component of the overall remodeling plan, which is a mixed-use assignment with 120 luxury components at a market price and approximately 200,000 square feet for medical use.

Muhlenberg Hospital closed in 2008. At its peak in the 1990s, the hospital had 355 hospital beds. With nearly 1,100 employees, Plainfield Hospital was the largest employer and operated as a non-profit training medical center.
