MELBOURNE, Fla. – An early vote in Florida was closed after election staff tested positive for COVID-19, Brevard County Election Supervisor Lori Scott announced Friday.
The affected site is in Palm Bay, Florida, at the Supervisor of Elections administrative offices, which are also temporarily closed.
In pronouncing the closure of the site, Scott said the electorate “had had no direct contact with those affected” due to “the multitude of security measures and half-inch ballistic glass between the affected staff and the voting public. “
However, Scott told him to close the polling place and its administrative offices there “with great caution” after consulting with Florida Department of Health officials.
Citing the “strict security protocols” in place since presidential preference number one in March, Scott said, “It’s a tribute to our strict security measures that we had to deal with about a portion of a million voters through the election procedure earlier this year. we had our first positive case. “
