US national intelligence agencies released a film on Wednesday to shed light on how foreign intelligence entities use social media to attack Americans.
The film, titled “The Nevernight Connection,” tells the fictional story of a former American intelligence officer who went to spy on the Chinese. He was encouraged through the true story of former Central Intelligence Agency officer Kevin Mallory, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2019 for passing national defense data to a Chinese intelligence officer. The National Counterintelligence and Security Center is on the loose and can be obtained on the FBI website.
Production is the latest effort through the US intelligence network. But it’s not the first time To combat threats of espionage and cyberattacks through foreign adversaries targeting Americans in government, business and academia. Foreign intelligence facilities and other hostile actors pass as head hunters, interested employees, others with unusual interest or use other appearances to link and expand relationships with others who have access to valuable information, the NCSC said in a statement.
Hackers from Russia, China, and Iran have intensified their efforts to disrupt U. S. presidential election through the crusades of President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden, among others, according to a recent investigation by Microsoft Corp. Earlier this month, the FBI helped Twitter Inc. and Facebook Inc. remove accounts related to a Russian-influenced crusade that inadvertently attempted to inadvertently rent American hounds and use political ads.
“Through this film and other resources, we hope to raise awareness among Americans so they can protect themselves against online approaches from unknown parts that can put them, their organization, and even national security at risk,” said William Evanina, ncSC director.
