BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – An Ohio motorist was arrested after the government discovered he was driving with the body of a dead man.
John Polen, 31, was driving Monday in Belmont County when he got off the road and crashed his vehicle off Interstate 470.
Law enforcement officers who arrived at the site said 36-year-old David Allen Saunders was shot out of the car in the crash.
First, police assumed Saunders had died in the wreckage, but a coroner decided he had been dead for at least several hours, WTRF reported.
Investigators discovered that Saunders had been absent since Sunday and an arrest warrant for Pollen showed that he was wanted for crimes opposed to a human corpse, according to the WTRF.
According to WTRF, police said one of the Sauders’ shoes was discovered at Pollen’s house.
The cause of Saunders’ death has yet been revealed.
Pollen police were under the effects of drugs at the time of the accident.
Polen was arrested and imprisoned and is detained without bail. Authorities said he “claims to have memory problems” about what happened.
