ATLANTA (AP) – The Atlanta Falcons on Saturday eliminated former first-round recruit Laquon Treadwell and two quarterbacks when they reached the 53-man limit for the regular season.
Treadwell was the 23rd overall selection of the Vikings in 2016, but has not yet had much effect in the NFL.He played 53 games for Minnesota, adding 16 openings, and had 65 receptions for 701 yards and two touchdowns before the team.let it go after 4 seasons.
Treadwell signed with the Falcons in March.
“Although my time here is short, I definitely value it,” Treadwell wrote on Twitter.”Great team, wonderful city, wonderful coaches! Take all my defeats like a man.”
The Falcons finished with two quarterbacks on the list after eliminating Kurt Benkert and recently hiring Kyle Lauletta.Matt Ryan is entering his 13th season as a starter, while Matt Schaub, 39, remains the replacement.
There has been a hypothesis that the Falcons would possibly be interested in Josh Rosen, the 10th pick in the 2018 draft, who redeemed after just one season with the Arizona Cardinals and was released after passing 2019 with the Miami Dolphins.
Benkert was on the practice team in 2018 and missed all last season after injuring his toe during the preseason.
“One way or another, I’m smart and I’m blessed,” Benkert said on Twitter.”It’s a marathon I probably wouldn’t avoid running for.”
The Falcons also eliminated offensive supporters Ka’John Armstrong, Justin Gooseberry, Sean Harlow and Evin Ksiezarczyk; Receivers Devin Gray, Juwan Green, Jalen McCleskey and Chris Rowland; Jared Pinkney’s closed wing; Offensive part Mikey Daniel and Craig Reynolds; defensive lineman Hinwa Allieu, Austin Edwards and Sailosi Latu; supporters Edmond Robinson and Ray Wilborn; corner Delrick Abrams, Tyler Hall and Josh Hawkins; and deep Jamal Carter, Chris Cooper and JJ Wilcox.Khari Lee had already been released with a prejudice agreement.
The defensive ending Steven Means is on the COVID-19 list and counts against the 53-player list.Corner jordan Miller will finish the first three games on the suspension list when he completes his penalty for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy at the end of last season.
All six Atlanta draft picks for 2020 were on the 53-man roster.
The Falcons open the season on September 13 at home opposite the Seattle Seahawks.
