The Pac-12 has signed an agreement with a diagnostic testing company that will allow the convention’s 12 schools to conduct daily and immediate COVID-19 tests on athletes who play close contact sports.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott on Thursday called the agreement with Quidel Corporation a “game changer.”He said the ability to control athletes and gain effects in 15 minutes can lead the convention to return to the football and basketball draw before January 1, the date for the postponement of their fall sports season was set on August 11.

“It’s a very significant step, however, there are other considerations that will move on to our plans to get back in the game,” Scott said.

The six Pac-12 schools in California and Oregon are still legal for comprehensive practices due to state mandates placed in position to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus However, California professional football groups have been able to make general arrangements for a season beginning September 13.

“Even if we were in a position to start tomorrow, we couldn’t,” Scott said.”In fact, there’s more to be done in terms of running with fitness officers.”

Pac-12 said Quidel’s Sofia 2 checks and check machines will be delivered to convention schools until the end of September.

Doug Bryant, president and CEO of Quidel Corporation, said the company has agreements with several individual schools that use its immediate verification. He refused to say which schools and added that the partnership with Pac-12 is unique to other agreements because the corporate will gives the convention the ability to verify COVID-19 on a basis.

Scott said that when the convention made the decision to postpone fall sports, she didn’t think she would have to conduct tests as fast until at least November.

“This ability to have tests with quick effects is a big step forward for us,” Scott said.

Big Ten postponed fall sports on the same day as pac-12.While Big Ten has been crushed by critics everywhere, a lawsuit filed through Nebraska players was not easy for its resolution to be overturned, the Pac-12 has presented a more unified front for postponement.

Scott said he hoped Big Ten and Pac-12 members, Rose Bowl, could adjust to his return to football to provide postseason opportunities for his teams.
