WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Energy said Monday that the Strategic Oil Reserve’s West Hackberry site “had suffered extensive damage” from Hurricane Laura and that detailed estimates of the damage caused will be released later this week.
The branch has closed two of the 4 SPR sites before Laura and the other site, in Big Hill, Texas, are back up and running, he said.West Hackberry doesn’t have to advertise electricity.” There is no risk to the integrity of geologically sealed underground caverns, and without danger of contamination or fear of spillage,” a branch official said.
