Zhukov told police that “two unidentified men attacked him on Rashchupkin Street and wounded him,” according to a policeman cited through the Interfax news agency.

Moscow police have opened an investigation, the BBC reported, and perpetrators face up to two years in prison if convicted.

“The culprits are expected to be known and punished according to the law,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Last December, a Russian court found that Zhukov was guilty of inciting extremism on his YouTube channel and banned it online for two years.Zhukov argued that the resolution had political motivations.

Earlier in Sunday, Zhukov said on his YouTube channel that he had been rejected for a master’s program at the Moscow Graduate School of Economics, a resolution that connected with his political activity.

The attack comes after Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was transferred to a Berlin hospital after a widely suspected poisoning attack.
