SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced Saturday that Brookfield Housing and ASM Global have been selected to build an entertainment district in the Midway domain that includes a new sports stadium, thousands of housing units, parks and outlets.
“This assignment will be so amazing for this city in the coming years,” Faulconer said at a Saturday morning news convention with other network leaders in the Pechanga area, the 48 acres of the 54-year-old sports stadium on 3500 Sports Boulevard.Arena in the Midway neighborhood.
Brookfield Properties San Diego Vice President Zach Adams joined Good Morning San Diego to discuss long-term development.
The other progression team he lost to Brookfield Housing Toll Brothers Housing, which proposed the Midway Sport and Entertainment District with other partners, adding the SD Loyal football team.
Faulconer said the purpose of the city is to have a new arena in the entertainment district that updates the Pechanga Arena.
“The vision of these assets is that of a stadium, park and services of global elegance,” Faulconer said.”A new arena has been a priority for me, and now is the right time.”
The chairman of the Loyal SD football team, Warren Smith, expressed his sadness that MSED’s proposal, which included plans for a modular football stadium, was not accepted.
“Although the news of the town today seemed like a punch in the stomach, the years of marriage to football taught me that you can win in the area without getting the result that counts,” Smith said.”I would also like to congratulate the Brookbox-ASM Global team on their victory in the festival procedure and wish each and every one of them good luck to bring about a radical change in the arena of the game.”
ASM Global operates 325 sites worldwide built through public-private partnerships, as does the agreement the city will begin to negotiate with Developers Brookfield-ASM Global.Negotiations are expected to begin soon and continue to the beginning.next year, the mayor said.
A move in the November elections would raise the city’s 9-meter coastal height limit in the Midway district, giving the city and developers more flexibility in negotiations.
