Dietrich was reassigned to Cincinnati’s alternate summer training site Saturday.
The 31-year-old was only added to the team’s player pool Wednesday and faced long odds to make the Opening Day roster, and the move to the alternate training site is a strong sign he won’t start out in the majors. Dietrich had an up-and-down 2019 season with a .187/.328/.462 slash line with 19 homers in 113 games, and he could still be a factor for the Reds again at some point in 2020.
