ARLINGTON, VA – Do you have additional foods and need to help local families facing a lack of food confidence due to the coronavirus pandemic? The Community Resources Section of the Arlington County Police Department is organizing a food collection aboard the ship at the Arlington Food Assistance Center.
Food donations will be accepted Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 6-8 p.m., at these three drive-thru locations:
Westover Baptist Church, 1125 Patrick Henry Drive
Police Headquarters, 1425 N. Courthouse Road
Giant Food, 2901 S.Glebe Road
Donors must remain in their vehicles. All you have to do is move to the unloading area, where you will be greeted by agents who will take your donations. A separate area will be established to settle donations deposited through bicycles or food. Donors are asked to comply with all appropriate social distance rules and to wear a face mask when presenting their donations.
THE AFAC supplies loose nutritious and complementary foods to 2,400 families in Arlington. Accepts maximum and unopened, unexpired and un prepared foods. It also accepts perishable foods. The following low-sodium, fat, and sugar-containing parts are required:
Low-sodium tomato (diced, dough and sauce)
Low-sodium canned tuna
Low-sodium canned beans
Low-sodium canned soup
Canned vegetables
Peanut butter (in plastic jars)
Low-sugar cereals
Anyone who is unable to attend Tuesday’s food campaign and who still needs to donate food can visit the NWAC online page to locate a donation deposit site near them.
