July 23 (UPI) – A circular moment of major flooding in several provinces in China is expected to increase the threat of herbal disasters, as torrential rains have affected forty-five million people in the country and at least 142 other people have died or disappeared, according to local authorities.
China’s Ministry of Emergency Management said this week that more than 4,500 people in Jiangxi, Anhui, Hubei and other provinces had been displaced by the floods and at least 35,000 homes collapsed, causing direct damage of nearly $23 billion.
Last week, as flood waters reached the highest levels, human rights activist Jennifer Zeng released a video featuring a 700-year-old temple shrouded in overflowing yangtze river water, Taiwan News reported.
Guanyin Temple in Hubei Province survived the floods, according to the report.
A Reporter from Xinhua said Friday that three doors of hydro decline have been opened to let go of “huge streams of water,” Taiwan News reported.
Chinese citizens downstream suspect that more water has been released from the dam, but the government is revealing developments, according to the report.
