LONDON (AP) – Gianni Infantino may remain president of FIFA and not be forced to resign under an illegal investigation, the associated press of global football’s governance told the Associated Press on Saturday.
A Swiss special prosecutor on Thursday opened a corrupt case about Infantino’s conduct in his talks with the country’s attorney general, who has conducted a broad investigation into football corruption.
“Nothing prevents the president from exhausting his duties,” FIFA said in a statement to the AP. “He will continue to fully assume his duties within FIFA.”
The FIFA ethics committee has been asked to suspend Infantino from his predecessor, Sepp Blatter, who was overthrown by shame in 2015 and banned from world football until 2021.
“The FIFA president is being investigated illegally by the Swiss judicial authorities,” FIFA said, “but he has been charged and is to blame for everything. Arrangement… FIFA and its president will continue to cooperate fully with judicial authorities. Switzerland has until this investigations been completed.
Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber has come forward to resign the case, which revolved around three meetings he has had with Infantino in recent years, one of which he had revealed and did not remember.
“FIFA is confident that after the ongoing investigations, it will be shown that the FIFA president did nothing in fulfilling his fiduciary duties and his meeting with the Swiss Attorney General,” FIFA said.
