Thirty-five Classified Airbnb ads in New Jersey have been suspended or removed from the online page following home holiday court cases that violate meeting restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Most of the suspensions announced Friday came directly from neighboring court cases, who called the Airbnb community hotline 24/7, the company said. The “vast majority” of Airbnb hosts “are taking steps to save it from unauthorized parties,” the company said.
“We’re on the side of Governor (Phil) Murphy, and we call for action to avoid vacations and announce the respectful habit of public health,” said Chris Lehane, senior vice president of global policy and communications at Airbnb. “We ban party houses and will not tolerate irresponsible behavior on our platform.
“We know that there are still paintings to be made, we ask the neighbors to touch us as soon as possible through our neighborhood helpline, to speak directly about any concerns, which will help us continue to apply our holiday ban.”
In recent weeks, the giant internal festivals of space have been linked to peaks in instances of COVID-19, especially among young people. More than 180,000 cases of the new coronavirus have been reported in New Jersey, adding approximately 16,000 deaths.
The occasions are contrary to the restrictions on meetings Murphy instituted in mid-March, when the new coronavirus began to spread in New Jersey. And the entire Rutgers University football team was quarantined last week after 15 players tested positive for coronavirus, which Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli said related to the match.
On Tuesday, Jackson Township Council filed an ordinance banning short-term rentals after a rented home on Airbnb was the site of a “stately party” that amassed about 700 visitors and that police took about five hours to disperse. Party videos show large crowds without mask or social estrangement.
“We strongly condemn the reported behavior, which represents a flagrant violation of Airbnb’s network policies and a serious abuse of this public fitness crisis,” Airbnb spokesman Samuel Randall said Thursday on stage in Jackson.

In recent months, Airbnb has been de-eedd in “event-friendly” and “party and authorized event” filters as an ad option. Last year, the company began manually filtering up high-risk reserves to “stop unauthorized parties before they start,” the company said.
They also imposed restrictions on consumers under the age of 25 looking to send an e-book to an entire home in their area.
