Miami Heat proposes AmericanAirlines Arena to act as a polling station amid a pandemic

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – As a component of their commitment to social justice, the Miami Heat has committed to interacting with the black community, as a component, through support for voter registration initiatives.

The organization is now the County AmericanAirlines Arena for use as a polling station.

Its length does so for safety reasons COVID-19.

“We have the parking lot. We have the space. We have access. We have the fitness protocols. It’s all there. We need to get there,” Said Heat’s head coach Erik Spoelstra. “We need the city to make paintings with us for this.”

The county election told CBS4 that they were in talks to use the arena for early voting, but not for Election Day on November 3.

The Gel Science Museum is also an option, as the Adrienne Arsht Center, which is the site used in the city centre for early voting, is under construction.

The Heat has also kept its promise to local businesses and charities.

On Thursday, they announced a partnership with Black Girls CODE, Health in the Hood and Florida Rights Restoration Coalition.

“This will cause former offenders or disadvantaged members of their rights to seek to reintegrate into society and may not have the opportunity to be represented or bail or have the right to vote,” Spoelstra said.

The team’s short culture shirts, which include sports words that condemn racism, will be on your team’s website. Revenue will pass to those three organizations.

“Send a message to everyone. Everybody sees it. You take pictures on social media so everyone can see what she was wearing and everything she was wearing,” Said Derrick Jones Jr.

The Elections Office told CBS4 that they use 33 other early voting sites to serve the county’s 1.5 million registered voters. The purpose is to have an early polling place within a two to 3 mile radius of voters.
