An eight-year-old girl, known only as Sophie, stocked her pocket cash to give away gift bags to others living in the city’s transient “costs.”
The 30 capsules were installed at the city’s Walpole Park through Gosport City Hall when the coronavirus crisis arrived, those sleeping on the street and others in need. Each has a refrigerator, microwave, shower and toilet and is supplied with parts that citizens would possibly need.
Sophie arrived at the capsules with her mother on Tuesday and passed out to a person containing toothpaste, a toothbrush, handkerchiefs, wipes, shampoo, socks, a snack bar and a bottle of water.
A handwritten note, attached to them, read: “Hi, I saved my cash for a while so I can buy you the essentials. I hope you love them. Sophie ,eight years.”
Her mother told the site that Sophie had kept her cash in recent months because she was looking to help those less fortunate than her.
The typographical gesture came the same day that the councillors agreed to continue to invest the pods until at least January, while working on a more permanent solution to the housing needs of the residents.
The council plans, with government funding, to achieve the national purpose of ensuring that others continue to receive the specialized help they want after leaving emergency housing in the event of a pandemic, and that as few people as possible return to the streets.
Cllr Graham Burgess, president of the Council Housing Council, said: “We would like to thank Sophie and her mother for this gesture. The citizens appreciated Sophie’s kindness, as did we.
“It’s great if you need to remain anonymous, however, if the circle of relatives looked to show up so we could thank you properly, it would be great.”
Liam, one of the citizens of the group, wrote a thank you note saying, “Thank you to Sophie for my gift, it’s the cutest thing that ever lived and melted my heart. If you see Sophie’s mother, please touch us like me. I’d like to do something for Sophie in return.
